“In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks.” (John Muir, 1918)

Thank you to everyone who came along on the Mt Cordeaux welcome hike. We had a beautiful 12km hike with fabulous company and stunning lookouts. It put a smile on my face to see all of you happy hikers bonding as our group of 20 trotted through the forest. Don’t worry if you weren’t present for the “How do snakes breathe?” chat, there’s plenty more opportunities to learn random fun facts from your friends in our upcoming hikes to the Lower Portholes (overnighter 21st-22nd March) and the Warrie Circuit (28th March). Thank you for all the enthusiasm you’re bringing to the Mountain Club.

If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the Starter hike or any upcoming trips, please don’t hesitate to contact Jacob or myself via Facebook or in person at Kangaroo Point climbing nights. We want to ensure everyone has the opportunity to wander through wilderness this year if their heart so desires.

On another note: Trail running has come to the mountain club! I am so excited to get everyone's blood pumping as we race through the forest, wind in our hair and sunlight scattered thought the tree canopy. To give a quick rundown (pun intended), trail running requires you to run through winding forest trails on various to terrain which often includes hazardous rocks or roots and large hills that you are totally encouraged to walk up! Trail running is a great way to reconnect with nature and burn off the calories from whatever study snack you smashed the night before! You can meet with your friends, build fitness and strength and get your dose of nature on a Wednesday (and possibly Friday) afternoon at Mount Coot-tha or Toohey Forest.

Each run will help you prepare for our end of semester trail challenge, the Numinbah Valley Fun Run, covering 11.4 kms with 400m elevation and 7 creek crossings, with prizes to be won! So please come along to the starter trail run at Mt Coot-tha this Wednesday, meeting at 5pm at the Summit Carpark for an easy 6km run through the forest. This activity is for all fitness levels, although I ask you fill out the signup form on the Facebook page so I can cater for everyone’s level. See you there!
