This is the life! Hanging with the most incredible people for a week, camping, chatting around the campfire, slack lining, admiring nature, star gazing, oh and of course climbing, how could I ask for anything more?
It all started with setting up camp on Monday and going for a lil climb before dinner. What was for dinner you ask? Delicious food was in abundance, but the best of them all would have to be the Mi Goreng. It all started with Will his peanut butter rang which most were converted fans, but Tash still disagrees. Of course, we could not forget Olivia her rang water coffee or Jarred his rang water tea or Connor his rang and spraaannngg. Mi Goreng never fails! While we ate up our dinner, we were serenaded by our lovely friend Tony who questioned us how old we thought we were. Perplexed, we definitely took on old mate his advice and channelled our inner youth while climbing that week.
We awoke on Tuesday to a beautiful cloudy morning, keen for some good climbing (without dying of heat exhaustion). We packed up and were at the crag by 7am hyped and ready to climb! We started at Black Stump, then headed to Point Pure for the afternoon. What beautiful views after these amazing climbs!
After dinner that night, we were so keen to see STARS. So we pulled out our mattresses and snuggled up, staring up at the beautiful night! Some nestled off to their cozy tents as the stars were taken over by clouds, while others kept on partying hard. This led to an interesting morning where some woke up refreshed from a beautiful night’s sleep, while others… well, let’s just say they’ve had better days. Nevertheless, we all awaited Ruth’s clap to get going in the morning (as we did each day) and then headed off to the crag. After a morning of climbs, a few of us went to a nice swimming hole. (If you need directions there, just follow Jack’s directions until he has no idea where you are. Then it’s 100 metres to your right). We had a much-needed refreshing swim and then admired the beautiful sunset for a while; in awe of the world around us.
On Wednesday night, the rain threatened us and some retreated home. Others held out hope that the storm would stay away, remaining in denial and using good vibes to keep the rain away. Rain does not exist at the Crag! I guess we must have done something right because we awoke to beautiful SUNSHINE. A few were keen to get straight on the crag, while others took the morning off to go for a little stroll down to the creek while the sun dried the previous night’s rain. Just some more wholesome moments, braiding each other’s hair and taking a splash in the (definitely not ankle deep) creek water. We had a bite to eat, had some fun slack lining and then headed to the crag for a beautiful afternoon of climbing. No trip epics yet!
On Thursday night, the remaining few of us still stayed in denial that the imminent storm on the horizon was not going to happen. That the blowing winds and predicted hail would not touch us. But alas, the good vibes failed us this time! A nice 2am wake up of a few bangs led us to find a broken awning (poor Tash!) and a runaway gazebo (remember to baton down the hatches kids). The next morning, we awoke to a very wet camp, but our spirits were still high! We danced around to the legendary song of the trip ‘In the Summertime’ as we packed up camp and the rain came down around us.
Throughout the trip, I learnt so much. Perhaps the most notable being:
We are indeed starting the WIDE boy’s society (not white, please annunciate better)
GriGri is a reliable person ; )
Anything goes in Rang
THE SWEET POTATO (long story, ask Jarred to explain)
Stake down the canopy
UQMC is the best!
All in all, I could not have asked for a better trip! Thank you to everyone for the good vibes; you are all such amazing humans. I am so lucky to have met you all, and keen for more incredible adventures (with no epics!).
